Info: Technical Details of the NEC Module:
The Component: It was a self-contained acoustic delay line housed in a sealed metal protective casing to shield it from physical shock and temperature changes.
The Mechanism:
Inside the NEC module, an electrical signal was converted into a mechanical torsion wave that traveled through a coiled wire.
This process continuously cycled to store the bits for the machine's two 16-digit memory registers.
The Connection:
The NEC-branded module plugged directly into the main circuit boards, which at the time were still primarily built using discrete transistors and diodes.
